Roger Dale Artist's

Dale
Studios recently moved from Tucson, Arizona to Southern
Colorado, outside of Durango, and a stone's throw away from the
quiet little town of Ignacio. Here we have created one of our
largest pieces of art, our new glass studio. In our 1800 square foot state
of the art glass studio/work shop overlooking our 22 acres and
the La Plata Mountains, life is large and peaceful. We fired up the studio in February
2001 after 10 months
of construction.
When
life is not so full of change, white water boating along with
other extreme sports feed inspiration into our creative process.
Working for Grand Canyon
Dories and O.A.R.S., as guides in the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River allows us to absorb the strength
and beauty of this natural wonder, which is then transformed into
brilliantly-stated art forms. If you'd like to learn more about
us as guides, check out the O.A.R.S. link page.
Artist’s Statement
Art
is the reflection of one’s personality and life experiences.
My ideas and motivational forces stem from my optimism, love of
life, and my experiences over the last 24 years as a wilderness
guide in the Grand Canyon. I like to work hard
and play harder. I like rock climbing, kayaking and back country skiing,
These sports stimulate
ideas and generate energy which I channel into my glass work.
My Mardi
Gras series, involves a series of hot-cast glass wall reliefs. The
casting consists of numerous panels which I hot cast separately then
assemble to create a dynamic and active wall sculpture. Hot casting
glass is the process of gathering or ladling hot molten glass from the
furnace and poring the liquid glass into molds. In each hot cast panel
there lays hundreds of complex colored glass bits which I have produced.
My
newest blown work, The Saturn Bowl Series and Elegant Bowls,
expresses my love for bright colors and clean forms.
I find that I am more interested in the lines of a piece and how
ones' eyes flow over it than the designs on the surface. Form over
function, I have always
said.
